Saint Andrew Catholic School Excels Despite Covid-19 Pandemic
Saint Andrew Catholic School was dedicated and proactive in educating students right from the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. As March of 2020 arrived, there was some uncertainty about what impact and effects would come from this new virus. Despite the uncertainty, in preparation for a possible shutdown, Saint Andrew held a professional development day on Friday, March 13, 2020. Faculty and staff worked together to ensure that we were ready to continue with virtual learning. On Saturday and Sunday of that weekend, our team handed out chromebooks to all of our families that needed devices at home, so the students would not miss any school. In addition to the one day training, our teachers researched and learned new digital platforms with the goal of keeping continuity for their students. On Monday, March 16, teachers began running their classes remotely. Teachers adapted their plans by thinking outside of the box to make their lessons engaging to the students. As required by the state, virtual learning lasted for the remainder of the school year.
In the fall of 2020, while most schools delayed students returning to school in person, faculty and staff worked tirelessly to prepare for a return to in person learning, with the option for those not comfortable to join their classroom remotely. Despite this difficult task, our dedicated teachers prepared synchronous lessons to meet the needs of students both in the classroom and those learning from home. Due to the efforts of both our teachers and students in the classroom, our students continued to
learn and grow. Saint Andrew Catholic School students did not see the level of learning loss many other students experienced; in fact, their standardized test scores showed continuous growth. Our students were continuing to excel above most of the nation. Due to our test scores, school culture, and school programming, Saint Andrew Catholic School was named a 2021 Blue Ribbon School. Being named a Blue Ribbon School during the pandemic is a great honor, and our faith based school community is proud of this achievement. We are so thankful for our great teachers that promote a strong academic program for students and for our dedicated Saint Andrew staff, parents, and students!
