Local Author Visit:
Vicki Chandler will be visiting our school on January 31. 2019icki Chandler will be visiting our school on January 31. 2019 to speak about bullying.
During her presentation to students in grades K-2, Vicki will read the picture book she wrote, Heart Eyes: Beth and the Bullies. The central character, Beth, sees others with heart eyes. She uses her insight about people to take action. As a catalyst of change, Beth inspires bystanders to respond creatively to bullying. To be problem solvers. To act as detectives, always on the lookout for children being hurt, harassed, excluded, or ignored. Her compassion compels readers to become peacemakers. The goal of that session is to remind students to show kindness to everyone all the time—to be on the lookout for others who need a friend.
During her presentation to students in grades 3-5, Vicki will explain the process involved in writing a picture book. The goals of that session are to:
-
Challenge students to “see others differently.”
-
Demonstrate how writing can be used to have a positive impact.
The message of her book challenges students to “see others differently.” Her book inspires young readers to view others as Christ sees us:
“But the Lord said to Samuel,
‘Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him.
The Lord does not look at the things people look at.
People look at the outward appearance,
but the Lord looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7).’”
In advance of her visit, you’re invited to order her picture book at a cost $2.00 lower than Amazon’s. Vicki will autograph any books which are pre-ordered. Interested parents should use the attached order form and return them no later than: Friday, January 25.
