Dear St. Andrew Parents,
I hope you had a great week! I am ready for a break from the snow, but it may be a little while before that break comes. In the meantime, we will do our best to manage the difficulty the weather sometimes provides. Thank you to those who took the time to complete the survey and give us feedback on what worked or did not work as well in your house. As expected, there was some variety in preference, but the majority of our families did prefer asynchronous work. If we have any further snow days, day one would be asynchronous work, and if there was a second day, we would follow with asynchronous work with a Zoom check in time for those that want to attend or have questions. If we have to have a third snow day, we will monitor the first two days before making a decision. Nearly 70% of our families were satisfied with the amount of work while others felt there was too little or too much.
Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. Our students in K-8 will celebrate with a virtual Mass on Wednesday at 9:00 AM. Following the Mass, our priests will come to school for our students to receive ashes (PK-8). They will rotate rooms for all those that wish to receive. All students will remain masked. Priests will be masked and will use a cotton swab to distribute ashes allowing for limited contact. If you do not want your child to receive ashes, please email your child’s homeroom teacher. Check out this video created by Mr. Tarrant that was shared with our Religious Education Students regarding Lent.
Students have returned to moving to some specials classrooms and will now rotate to the Art Room in some grade levels. Mrs. Degraw has asked that each student bring a ziplock bag to help carry art supplies from their homeroom to the Art Room.
This afternoon our 5-8th grade students listened to our first “virtual assembly” presented by the Travis Manion Foundation. The representatives discussed Character and Kindness with our children. All though the Zoom was not the same as the in person presentation, I do pray it was still impactful. The foundation’s mantra is “If Not Me Then Who?” They challenged our students to look for one way that they could improve and find at least one way to be more kind and help others. We have great kids, but I am not sure we can ever have enough focus here. If you are looking for a conversation starter tonight, maybe now is the time to talk about what is the one thing that each of us can do to be better people, siblings, children, friends, classmates, etc.
Sorry for the longer than usual Friday News, but please check out the information below, including: registration/tuition, CR bus info, sock collection, spirit sale, etc.
