Friday News November 10, 2023

Dear St. Andrew Families,

I hope you are doing great! As we approach Veterans Day, we would like to thank all of our Veterans for their service to our country! This week we have been learning about and discussing our veterans through our prayers and announcements and in the classroom. We have encouraged our students to personally thank a veteran. If you do not know a veteran, please feel free to write a card, and I will make sure it is received by a veteran. A special thanks to our Fathers’ Committee and especially the chairs, Jim Warunek and Zach Kemp for purchasing and decorating our school with beautiful flags in honor of our veterans. Please continue to pray for all of our Veterans and active-duty service members.

Speaking of prayers, this weekend we will be celebrating many of our 7th graders as they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please keep them in your prayers as they confirm their faith and become fully initiated members of the Catholic Church.

We are still waiting for school pictures to come in so our retake dates will be postponed. As soon as we have the new date(s) we will include them in the Friday News.

Planning ahead, our next dress down day will be on Monday, November 20. We will wear blue, and donations will be made to the Shop with a Cop campaign where local underprivileged children are taken out by local police officers to shop for Christmas presents for the children and their loved ones. We also will hold three drives in December. We do not normally do this, but we thought they are very different needs. Also, many may have some of the items lying around the house already. In these cases, there will be donation stations at the front of the school inside the lobby.

  • Used eyeglasses will be collected by Ryan L. who is working with the Lions Club to help the underprivileged receive the eyewear they need.
    • This drive will run from December 1-8.
  • Plastic shopping bags are being collected by Avriann and Lundyn K. and will be donated to the Trenton Soup Kitchen to help pack lunches for the homeless.
    • This drive will run from December 8-15.
  • Advent Diaper Drive – Our annual diaper drive will be led by John M. and in conjunction with the Church. Items will be donated to Catholic Charities of Levittown.
    • This drive will run from December 1-20.

Any support you can provide will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, and have a great weekend!

Repeat School Information

  • A reminder that we are asking school families to sign up to volunteer as Mass greeters at all of our Saint Andrew Catholic Church Masses. There are opportunities at each Mass in November and December, and additional signups will be made available for future months.
  • On a related faith note, I wanted to highlight Camp Damascus—the summer Catholic faith camp for rising 6-8th graders—which the Archbishop is promoting and is reserved the week of June 30-July 5 for Archdiocese of Philadelphia students. Other weeks are available if that does not work for you, but transportation may be more difficult. We have received positive feedback from families that have attended in the past.
  • Friendly Car Rider reminders. Independence: To ensure even greater efficiency, if you are dropping off in front of the school each morning, we kindly ask that you try your best to have your students ready to exit the vehicle on their own. We understand it takes time for children to master the dropoff routine, and we simply ask that we are making strides in this direction toward independence. Everyday we get better and better. Communicating Changes: If you need to communicate a transportation or after school change, please communicate these needs to the front office not the homeroom teacher. The front office can best communicate this information to your child and his or her homeroom teacher. Using Turn Signals: All incoming traffic should put their turn signals on early to enter the driveway as your signaling helps us direct traffic where it needs to go.
  • Winter Uniforms
    • No more gym shorts. Students are to wear sweatpants.
