Friday News December 1, 2023

Dear St. Andrew Families,

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving and a great week back. Our students are a continual reminder that we have so many blessings for which to be thankful. As we continue to give thanks to God, we thank Him for our Patron, Saint Andrew, whose Feast Day (November 30) we celebrated with Mass as a school community yesterday. Did you know that each year the Church decides the start of Advent (Sunday 12/02/23) based on the Sunday that is closest to Saint Andrew’s Feast day? Saint Andrew was the First Called, and we follow in his charism by doing our best to be a leader in Catholic education, as such please see some Saint Andrew School Facts below!

School Information

  • Second Saint Andrew Night at Vince’s Pizzeria and Taproom in Newtown Wednesday 12/06 all day (4-8pm)
    • For the second time this fall, Vince’s is generously hosting a Saint Andrew Night in which 15% of all proceeds (dine-in and takeout) are donated back to the school with mention of Saint Andrew Catholic School.
  • Winter Weather and Recess:
    • Recess is held outdoors almost every day even when it is cold. Generally, we look at the wind chill, and 28 degrees is our cut-off. It is important to let the children run and play. Please make sure your children are coming to school in a jacket when we have cold weather. If they do not have a jacket, they may not play outside, have to be monitored by a staff member, and may have little to no interaction with their peers during this time.

Repeat School Information

  • We are making some changes to our water bottle/container rules after Christmas and want to make you aware now. The reasons we need to implement some guidelines have to do with safety, classroom distractions, and damage to the school. We have had students accidentally hit with the containers, we are not sure what drinks are in the containers, they constantly fall and make loud/distracting noises, spilling water on the floor that becomes a slip hazard, and they have both dinged our flooring and stained our carpeting. Due to this, please see the guidelines below. Thank you for your understanding.
  • A reminder that we are asking school families to sign up to volunteer as Mass greeters at all of our Saint Andrew Catholic Church Masses. There are opportunities at each Mass in November and December, and additional signups will be made available for future months.
