Expectations for Incoming Third Graders
Math:
- Addition and subtraction rapid recall facts (sums and differences) to 100
- Identify the place value of a three digit number
- Skip counting by 2’s, 5’s,10’s and 20’s
- Identify odd and even numbers
- Compare three digit numbers
- Interpret a pictograph, bar graph and circle graph
- Tell time to the hour and half-hour
- Identify fractions (½, ⅓ and ¼)
- Solve addition and subtraction story problems within 100
- Solve money problems
- Read and write numbers to 1000 using numbers, number names and expanded form
- Identify and count money
ELA:
- Identify an asking, telling, commanding and exclaiming sentence
- Know that sentences begin with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark
- Form a basic paragraph consisting of three to five sentences
- Familiar with nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, compound words and contractions
- Identify the difference between long and short vowels
- Ask and answer questions as who, what, where, when and why to demonstrate understanding of key details in the text.
- Read with fluency
- Understand the character, setting and plot of a story
